Australian fathers are killing themselves in ever increasing numbers with little to no recognition of the national emergency that is male suicide from state and federal governments particularly during Covid19.
The Cairns Post reported, “AN OUTPOURING of grief and community support following the death of Cairns mental health advocate Carl Cook earlier this month.”
What it failed to mention was Carl took his life after experiencing 9 years of child access restrictions that were accompanied by years of emotional and psychological abuse and domestic violence at the hands of the mothers of his two children.
Carl had been involved in court matters prior to his death where he had been seeking regular contact with his son. It was the day before his death that Carl had received more abusive messages from the mother of his daughter who was threatening that he would never see her again!
His children will likely never know the pain and suffering he was forced to endure as he worked to be their father.
This is another family failed by domestic violence laws and a family law system that has demonised fathers because of their gender while ignoring the abuse and violence perpetrated by mothers.
If you are a father experiencing child access issues or domestic violence we encourage you to call the Australian Brotherhood of Fathers on 1800FATHER for support or 1800RESPECT.
